What is PKU sphere^®?

A low phenylalanine (phe)* powdered Glycomacropeptide (GMP)-based formula for the dietary management of Phenylketonuria (PKU). It is a blend of whey protein isolate (GMP), essential and non-essential amino acids, carbohydrate, fat (including docosahexaenoic acid – DHA), vitamins and minerals. PKU sphere is suitable from 3 years of age. PKU sphere is available in two pack sizes:

• PKU sphere15 comes in Vanilla and Red Berry flavors, providing 15 grams of protein equivalent per packet.
• PKU sphere20 comes in Vanilla, Red Berry, Chocolate, *NEW* Banana, and Lemon flavors, providing 20 grams of protein equivalent per packet.

What is GMP?

GMP is derived from a natural whole protein source obtained from whey protein in milk and is produced as a by-product of the cheese making process. Unlike other food sources of protein, GMP is naturally low in phe making it a good option to provide protein equivalent in PKU formulas. GMP protein has been an exciting innovation for PKU and tastes different than amino acid based PKU formulas.

How much PKU sphere^® can I have per day?

The amount of PKU sphere you need each day will depend on a variety of factors including your age, weight, nutritional needs, and phe tolerance. Your registered dietitian will advise you on how much and which PKU sphere product is right for you.

*Each packet of PKU sphere15 contains 28 mg of phenylalanine.
*Each packet of PKU sphere20 contains 36 mg of phenylalanine.

How do I prepare PKU sphere^®?

Making PKU sphere is easy! 1 packet of PKU sphere20 mixes with the lowest volume to provide the same amount of protein equivalent^‡.

PKU sphere15:

1. Measure 120 ml (4 fl oz) of cold water into a cup with lid.
2. Add 1 packet of PKU sphere15.
3. Secure lid and shake until powder is fully dissolved.

PKU sphere20:

1. Measure 120 ml (4 fl oz) of cold water into a cup with lid.
2. Add 1 packet of PKU sphere20.
3. Secure lid and shake until powder is fully dissolved.

For best results the product should be freshly prepared and used immediately. Any leftover prepared product must be tightly covered and consumed within 4 hours at room temperature, or within 24 hours if refrigerated. Re-shake before use.
