What is PKU explore^™?

The first and only phenylalanine (phe)-free formula designed to form a semi-solid (spoonable) consistency when mixed with water to support the introduction of solids in the PKU diet from 6 months of age. It provides a blend of essential and non-essential amino acids, carbohydrate, arachidonic acid (ARA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), vitamins and minerals.

PKU explore comes in 2 packet size options to accommodate age appropriate nutritional requirements and flavor variety;

• PKU explore5 is unflavored and provides 5 grams of protein equivalent
• PKU explore10 comes in orange and raspberry flavors and provides 10 grams of protein equivalent

When should my child try PKU explore™?

At around 6 months of age, your child’s registered dietitian may help you start introducing solid foods into their diet in conjunction with their phenylalanine-free formula. PKU explore is specifically designed for age appropriate feeding, helping to meet the daily protein requirements prescribed and establish a good foundation for overall dietary management with less reliance on large volumes of PKU infant formula.

How much PKU explore™ does my child need?

The amount of PKU explore your child needs will depend on a variety of factors including their age, weight and nutritional needs. Initially, they may only need a very small amount, which will increase as they grow. Your child’s registered dietitian will advise you on how much and which PKU explore product your child will need each day.

How do I prepare PKU explore™?

Preparing PKU explore is easy!

PKU explore5:

1. Add 12.5 ml (approximately 1 tablespoon) of cold water into a small container with a lid.
2. Empty the contents of the packet into the container.
3. Secure the lid and shake well for 10 seconds.
4. Leave to stand for 2 minutes, allowing a smooth semi-solid consistency to form. Consume with a spoon.

PKU explore10:

To prepare the recommended concentration as a spoonable consistency:

1. Add 25 ml (1.5–2 tablespoons) of cold water into a small container with a lid.
2. Empty the contents of the packet into the container.
3. Secure the lid and shake well for 10 seconds.
4. Leave to stand for 2 minutes, allowing a smooth semi-solid consistency to form. Consume with a spoon.

To prepare the recommended concentration as a low volume drink:

1. Add 80 ml (approximately 3 fl oz) of cold water into a small container with a lid.
2. Empty the contents of the packet into the container.
3. Secure the lid and shake well for 10 seconds.
4. Drink immediately.

The product should be prepared immediately prior to feeding, and any remaining product must be discarded if not used within 1 hour.
